Platform #1: a collaboration tool for global field reps called "Global Red Bull University"
W Within my first few months working at Red Bull I was invited to the cabal to collaborate with HQ on special projects they had in the works. One of these projects what a global collaboration tool for all field reps to use for communication and analytics. I was tasked with researching the most effective tools for the site and what features would be essential. After several months of iterations, the new site was ready for testing. I discovered many challenges when designing a global system. Language barriers were a huge problem, and each region had different metrics for success. While the experience of the site was amazing, it started developing major problems as it began to scale.
Platform #2: a collaboration tool for all Red Bull Employees called "Collaboration"
As I began working in the music world, my friend at HQ who had built the web platform I worked on had something new in the works. This one was much bigger. He was building a full global collaboration platform for all Red Bull Employees, not just the field reps. He had some of the best engineers in the world working on it and several million dollars in budget. He asked if I would help and I was ecstatic.
Designed branding guidelines for music used in all Red Bull Media house films and videos
The new music project I was working on began to have some success so we decided to use it to develop a best practice for the site. I worked on developing a format that each department could host it’s information and it could be consistent and accessible across all regions around the world. After many reiterations, we finally came to a design that worked. The site launched, and it was a huge success.
My design used for a billboard to promote upcoming event in Atlanta.
My design work caught the attention of some of the regional teams so they began tasking me with some graphic design projects. One day I was driving through downtown Atlanta and saw one of my designs being used on a prominent billboard promoting an upcoming event. That was pretty cool.
Most of my work was creating non-traditional marketing campaigns. I would throw parties and events around the area to promote the brand. This required designing flyers, promoting, and recapping the events. I worked on a good amount of projects and we started to have a decent amount of success in the area.
First design project tasked with Red Bull Culture Event
I was brought out to HQ in Los Angeles for a few months to work on a new project they had in the works. It would be much different than I had expected. They were starting a record label and wanted me to help integrate the brand.
My design used as the official Red Bull Records logo
I I didn’t have much experience in the music industry, actually.. I didn’t have any at all. But I did love music. Turns out they were more interested in having a fresh perspective then an old mindset. The music industry was archaic and it was our task to shake it up and do something cool.
Landing page for the field marketing program
My previous design work came in handy when I was tasked to develop the Red Bull Records logo. It wasn’t entirely intentional, we hired a big firm out of NY and spend an insane amount (I heard it was around 100k) for them to create one. They didn’t like it so the GM came over and asked if I could make a better one. I did… and they ended up using my design. It’s still the logo used today.
Initial mockups for the Red Bull Records internal communication platform
Some of my early work was designing assets for the Red Bull field reps to use in promoting the artists. The most successful thing I made was a notebook that all employees received. In it I had everything about the label and it’s artists. It was an easy and effective way to get the info into their hands and have it top of mind at all times.
Designs for the Red Bull Air Race Game collaboration
After a while we started growing pretty fast and couldn’t rely on the Red Bull field team anymore. I was tasked to develop our own national field marketing team. This meant that we would not only have to develop our own team, we would need to build our own collaboration platform as well. I worked on developing a specific site that would be more focused on our initiatives.
First graphics and samples from game
The international team asked me to make flyers for some of our events around the world. I ended up creating dozens of one off flyers for tours, concerts, and events.
Graphic designs for upcoming tours and events
As the brand started building out more of the media side of the company, I started working on more visual assets. We filmed a World of Red Bull commercial and I worked on music syncs and branding.
Designed MacBook skins and Notebooks sent out to all employees
When iOS apps started becoming popular, I was approached by the brand to develop a mobile game that included music. We decided to create a flying game similar to guitar hero for our own music. The game would be based around an event called “Red Bull Air Race” and the user would fly a plane though the course and the different stems of the music would go in and out based on how well the scored. It was an awesome game and the first time I really got to dive in the the creative side of development.
